Tastes like…
Vibrant and textural with a colourful, juicy fruit profile. Aromas of watermelon, strawberry, rhubarb and savoury spice lead into a palate that balances freshness with subtle structure. Layered fruit, subtle herbal notes and a savoury lift delivers a wine which is playful, yet refined.
Winemaking notes
Our Ashes Rosé is a non vintage blend of Pinot Noir, Syrah and Chardonnay.
All grapes were hand-picked by us across three uniquely beautiful, organic blocks throughout Central Wairau and the Southern Valleys of Marlborough.
The Chardonnay was whole bunch pressed in an old basket press before undergoing primary then secondary fermentation in old oak before maturing for 10 months.
The Pinot Noir was destemmed, fermented in an open top fermenter for 10 days while we only gently wet the cap by hand. We didn’t plunge as we did not want to extract any harsh tannins or phenolics, rather we wanted this component of the wine to be vibrant and fruit forward for a bright contribution to this wine.
The Syrah was fermented 100% whole bunch prior to being pressed off. We wanted to add structure and complexity to this wine by the whole bunch contribution of the Syrah.
These wines were then thoughtfully blended to create our Ashes rosé.
